The Isla Cristina Carnival is one of the oldest and most famous in Spain and is declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, being one of the ones that arouses the most interest in the region. It is celebrated 40 days before Holy Week, coinciding with the “Burial of the Sardine” with Ash Wednesday, both the island people and foreigners actively participate and enjoy the group competition, Great Parade, Burial of the Sardine, as well as dances and costume contests.
