Origin of the San Lucas Fair

The traditional fair of Jaén was held in the month of August, and was known as Las Fiestas de la Virgen de Agosto. But in the year 1805, there was an epidemic, plague and yellow fever, so that year, this celebration was changed to October, making it coincide with a livestock fair, and so it has remained until nowadays.

It refers to the 18th of October, when the Condestable Don Miguel Lucas de Iranzo celebrated the festivity of the patron saint of his family, San Lucas.
