In August, the well-known festival of La Tomatina is celebrated in Buñol. An authentic campaign battle, where participants throw tomatoes as if there were no tomorrow.

The return to normality after a two-year hiatus due to pandemic restrictions coincides with the 75th anniversary of La Tomatina.

With the 2022 slogan: "You can't miss it". This year we also celebrate the overcoming of the pandemic.

In this year 2022 we highlight:

  • It will be held on Sunday 31 August at 12:00.
  • La Tomatina Infantil will be held on Saturday 27 August. For children between 4 and 14 years old.
  • 15,000 tickets have been put on sale, through travel agencies and the official website, and another 5,000 have been reserved for direct purchase.
  • The route will be the usual: San Luis and Cid streets, Plaza Layana and Plaza del Pueblo, where it will culminate at 1 p.m. with the final fireworks. 
  • It coincides with the anniversary of celebrating 20 years as a Festival of International Tourist Interest.

New this year 2022:

"water zone, musical atmosphere in the Tomatina area and some other surprises", says the councillor for Tourism and Tomatina, María Vallés.

La Tomatina VR Experience

For those who cannot travel to the event, there is a virtual reality game 'La Tomatina VR Experience', with the support of an Oculus Quest viewer. Participants have to throw and dodge tomatoes, as well as the typical elements such as throwing water from the balconies, the trucks, the music, the singing and the hustle and bustle.
