A religious and cultural event that is celebrated every year. The faithful meet on the island and hermitage that bear the name of the virgin to pray and demonstrate their devotion to her. The festivity includes folkloric activities, a picnic and a pilgrimage with religious songs and good food. It attracts devotees and visitors from far and wide.

Friday May 26

Novena in the parish of San Román.

  • 7:30 p.m. Performance of the choir Santa Catalina in the parish of San Román.

Saturday May 27

  • 8:00 a.m. Solidarity spearfishing championship whose catch will be delivered to the neighborhood women's association.
  • 11:00 a.m. Opening of the traditional market, enlivened by whistle and drum.
  • 6:00 p.m. Children's performance by Patty Popins.
  • 7:30 p.m. Performance of the Cantabrian Orfeón Choir in the parish of San Román.
  • 8:00 p.m. Closure of the traditional market.
  • 9:00 p.m. Music by the 'Titanium Show' orchestra until the end of the party.

Sunday May 28

Field of the Virgin of the Sea.

  • From 10:00 a.m. Contest of railway pots of Rioja-style potato stew.
  • 11:00 a.m. Opening of the traditional market.
  • From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Drawing contest on the island, to which anyone who wishes can register minutes before starting. The participants will be provided with the sheet to draw and they will be lent paints, each one being able to bring their own materials if they wish. There will be one winner per category.
  • 12:30 p.m. Performance dance academy 'Midtown'.
  • 4:00 p.m. Delivery of the prizes of the drawing contest.
  • From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The little ones will be able to enjoy the 'Cityland', the largest inflatable in Spain. In addition, there will be a Magic children's party with animated dolls and children's workshops.
  • 7:00 p.m. chocolate.
  • 8:00 p.m. Performance by Maria Leyre.
  • 8:00 p.m. Closure of the traditional market.

Monday May 29

Big day of the festivity of the Virgin of the Sea, Patron Saint of Santander.

First Monday of Pentecost.

  • 9:00 a.m. Mass in the hermitage.
  • 10:45 a.m. Traditional procession with the image of the Virgin from the parish of San Román to the hermitage on the island of the Virgen del Mar.
  • 12:00 p.m. Mass officiated by the bishop, Manuel Sánchez Monge, and sung by the Santa Catalina choir, together with the municipal band, with the renewal of the consistory's vows and followed by the floral offering to the Virgin.
  • 1:00 p.m. The playful acts begin with a draw for the heifer.
  • 2:00 p.m. Popular food with the tasting of 800 portions of paella.
  • 5:00 p.m. Musical performance by the groups 'Andariveles'.
  • 6:00 p.m. Performance of the Mercedarias children's choir.
  • 7:00 p.m. Rosary and Eucharist in the hermitage.
  • 8:30 p.m. End of Party.
