The Romería de San Miguel is the start of a celebration like no other, and is held on the Sunday before the Feria de San Miguel in Torremolinos. It is a celebration that keeps traditions alive, with music, decorated streets and lots of joy in the atmosphere.

What does the Feria de San Miguel in Torremolinos consist of?

The day of San Miguel is celebrated on the 29th of September, but the Sunday before, Torremolinos dresses up to celebrate one of the most important pilgrimages in Andalusia.

The Pilgrimage of San Miguel in 1 minute

This is an event attended by thousands of pilgrims, dressed in traditional costumes, who make the pilgrimage on foot or on carts pulled by oxen or horses, from the heart of Torremolinos to the hermitage of San Miguel. Along the way they enjoy a good wine and some Iberian ham, to the sound of hand clapping, singing and Andalusian dances.

The pilgrimage mass is celebrated in the hermitage, beginning with the blessing of the pilgrims and the departure of the patron saint, at 9:15 am. After this stage, from 16:30 hours, some musical performances will begin on the esplanade of the Ermita de San Miguel.

The Fair is inaugurated with the traditional opening speech and the activities begin at the fairgrounds with the fair attractions and the "casetas" (stalls). On the 29th of September there is a mass in honour of San Miguel, followed by a procession.

You can enjoy performances every day, in the main squares throughout the municipality. It is a tradition that to close this event, on Sunday, the last day of the fair, the children's day is celebrated in the fairgrounds, and the attractions are offered with interesting discounts.

Experts point out that the Romería de San Miguel has been celebrated for a long time, with its last recorded beginning in 1947. Nowadays, this event is considered the central act of the festivities in honour of San Miguel Arcángel.

This is a multitudinous event, coming from different localities, ready to enjoy a playful day, in which music, food and good wine are not lacking.

You can also walk along some of the paths that Torremolinos has to offer, such as the Coastal Path, the Water Path or the Great Path, or visit its important beaches.

Torremolinos has several bars, where you can taste delicious tapas, you can also find restaurants of traditional and international food. But if you want to try the local gastronomy, consider that being a town located on the coast, undoubtedly its most famous dishes contain fish and seafood.

So... Don't hesitate to try salt fish, sardine skewers and roasted pepper salad. And if you are looking for a sweet taste, the tortas de aceite (oil cakes) are the favourite of the tourists, they are delicious and low in sugar.
