Every February 3rd, the day of the patron saint of Burriana is celebrated with great emotion. It is San Blas and his traditional Font del Vi, a fountain that distributes wine to all those who wish to taste this delicious liquid and be part of the festivities.

How is San Blas celebrated in Burriana?

On 3 February, Burriana celebrates the day of San Blas, its patron saint. Therefore, on this day a festival is held in his honour, which includes a series of religious events throughout the day, such as the procession to the saint, but there is also the Font del Vi, a very special fountain.

A long line of people wait patiently for the opportunity to drink from the Font del Vi. Everyone waits their turn with joy, because they know they are going to taste one of the most delicious drinks.

If you don't believe it, watch how wine flows from the village fountain.

Origin of the Fiesta de San Blas in Burriana

According to legend, during a rainstorm that threatened to overflow the river, all the villagers, victims of fear, prayed all night, and the next day, the sun came out. When they went around the area, they found a tablet with the image of San Blas and attributed the miracle of the end of the storm to him. They decided to build a church in his honour.

What to visit in Burriana, Valencia?

Burriana is a city that still preserves many historical vestiges, just stroll through its streets and you will learn about its history, but you must make sure to visit these places of interest:

  • Basilica of El Salvador: built in the 13th century, under a gothic style. However, it has been modified on several occasions, until it obtained its current appearance. In 1969 it was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument.
  • Modernist Houses: this town has an outstanding history related to the commercialisation of oranges at the end of the 19th century. This gave rise to the beginning of the construction of houses with a modernist style, with various colours, citrus decorations, large doors, among other qualities.

Gastronomy, what to eat in Burriana

The Festival of San Blas and the Font del Vi, apart from offering the opportunity to taste delicious wine, you can also enjoy exquisite dishes that are prepared almost exclusively for this celebration.

  • San Blas rolls: these are rolls that are native to this town. They are made with dough that, after being baked, have a crunchy and delicious texture.
