XII Edition of "Vive la Trashumancia" and IV Artisan Cheese Fair

Valverde de Leganés is finalising all the preparations for the 12th edition of "Vive la Trashumancia" and the 4th Artisan Cheese Fair in the year in which it is applying to become a candidate for the Fiesta of Regional Tourist Interest.

To speak of Trashumancia is to speak of the path that shepherds used to take, with their loaded lunchboxes, accompanying their herds every year in search of the best pastures on the peninsula. Sheep, cows and goats crossed long distances through the Cañadas Reales, twice a year, which would be marked by the seasons.

Today, although one might think that this activity is almost extinct, nothing could be further from the truth. Instead of being in decline, in recent years it has acquired a certain relevance and is now considered an activity that is part of Spain's Cultural Heritage. Transhumance is more than ever an attraction, a tradition and in Valverde de Leganés, also a reason to celebrate, as this is the end of the Cañada Real Soriano Occidental, one of the main livestock routes that links the lands of Valverde with the city of Soria across 700 kilometres diagonally.

During the 19th, 20th and 21st of May, Valverde de Leganés dresses up and opens its doors to all visitors who want to immerse themselves in the experience of living this millenary profession from the inside.

These days offer a wide range of activities for locals and visitors, including tastings, cooking shows, workshops and educational meetings on the subject, which will be attended by leading figures from the world of livestock farming.

On the morning of Sunday the 21st, the Ruta Trashumante will take place, one of its most emblematic activities in which the livestock will be guided from the beginning of the Cañada Real to the town, but not before gaining strength with the traditional shepherd's breakfast.

But that's not all, as in any great fair, there is also a large multi-sector market where, in addition to the finest cheeses from all over Extremadura, you can find a wide variety of handicrafts and other regional products. Not to be overlooked is the possibility of tasting a wide variety of craft beers and the grilled lamb offered every year by CORDEREX. And as there is no festival without music, there is also a wide range of concerts and musical performances with David Civera as the headliner.
